20th October, 2022: Department of Political Science participated in the Basic CPR Workshop with Dr K Lolo Ndang, Specialist in Emergency Medicine

6 students from 3rd Semester Political Science Honours Programme along with faculty member of Political Science Department, Assistant Professor, Lashili G Chishi, participated in the Basic CPR workshop given by Dr K Lolo Ndang, Specialist in Emergency Medicine & organised by Department of Functional English, Kohima College.


5th to 12th October, 2022: Department of Political Science participated in the State-Level Essay Competition themed “RTI—A Tool for Transparent & Accountable Governance” in celebration of RTI Week 2022; wherein Kikhosou Rame, 3rd Semester, Political Science Department, Kohima College, bagged the 1st position

Kikhosou Rame, 3rd Semester & Alavinuo Mepfuo, 5th Semester, both students from the Honours Programme offered by the Department of Political Science, represented Kohima College at the state-level essay competition held during this week. Kikhosou Rame bagged the 1st position, wherein he was awarded a State-level certificate & a prize amount of Rs 15,000. Chaired by Worhonthung Ezung, Deputy Secretary, NIC, the opening speech of the RTI formal programme was given by I Meyionen Jamir, Chief Information Commissioner, Nagaland, which was followed by a film screening of a movie on RTI, “My Right, My Voice”. The Vote of Thanks was given by Obangla Jamir, IAS, Secretary, NIC.


16th August, 2022: Department of Political Science organised a Debate Competition for 5th Semester Political Science Honour Students, themed “Freedom of Speech & Expression: Are We Allowed to Say Anything?”, marking 75 Years of India’s Independence Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

Altogether 8 students participated in this debate competition, judged by Associate Professor Tiakumla Jamir, Assistant Professor Dr Konei Nakhro & Assistant Professor Rose Kevingonu, faculty members of the Department of Political Science. Chaired by the HoD, Zeneinuo Solo, Associate Professor, moderated by student Hyulo Tsela, General Secretary, KCSC, student Alavinuo Mepfuo as rapporteur & critiqued by Associate Professor Tiakumla Jamir; the programme was very popular with the students, whose feedback forms revealed want for more such programmes for students in the future. 15th August, 2022: Department of Political Science in collaboration with NCC, KCSC & Student Welfare Committee organised the Flag Hoisting Ceremony on Independence Day, Kohima College, Kohima

77 students from 3rd Semester Political Science Honours Programme & 1 faculty memberfrom the Department of Political Science, attended the Flag Hoisting Ceremony on Independence Day, held at Kohima College, Kohima


15th August, 2022: Department of Political Science in collaboration with NCC, KCSC & Student Welfare Committee attended the Independence Day Celebration at the Secretariat Plaza, Kohima

Department of Political Science in collaboration with Student Welfare Committee arranged 77 seats for students at the formal celebration of Independence Day at the Secretariat Plaza, Kohima. As such, 77 students from 3rd Semester Political Science Honours Programme, accompanied by Asst. Professor Vengotalu Vero, Department of Political Science, attended the event, alongside with NCC Cadets & KCSC Executive Council”.


2nd May, 2022: Department of Political Science Educational Trip to Highland Institute, Kohima to attend a workshop on “Naga Ancestral Voices & Visual Arts”

Accompanied by Dr Ketoukhrieu, Department of Political Science, the 2nd Semester Political Science Honours students were able to attend the workshop on “Naga Ancestral Voices & Visual Arts”. The workshop allowed students to interact with various researchers working on various themes such as cylindrical sound recordings of JH Hutton (eminent British administrator of the Naga Hills), song recordings of Thomas Kaiser, art pieces by Mhao Aaron Odyuo etc.


23rd April, 2022: Department of Political Science organised an Eco- Educational Exposure Trip to Dzuleke Conservation Village

Accompanied by 6 faculty from Political Science Department, 31 6th semester students taking Political Science Honours, volunteered to participate in this eco-educational trip, organised by the same said department. The department faculty had funded the entirety of the trip to this well-known Conservation village.
Dzuleke is also an open defecation free village with traces of utopian human society & culture, rarely found in the modern world. A well-constructed wooden shed lay by the side of the road selling organic vegetables. The uniqueness being that there were no vendors, as it is self selection of organic products as well as self-payment.
The students also learned to make plates out of wild leaves & observed the pristinely kept natural village and its varied surrounding. Network connectivity is absent in this area.


20th April, 2022: Department of Political Science organised an Extempore Competition for all students under the Political Science Honours Programme, marking the 131st Birth Anniversary of BR Ambedkar, themed “Life & Philosophy of BR Ambedkar”

The Judges of the competition were Dr Konei Nakhro, Asst. Professor (also the critic), Rose Kevinguno Rolnu, & Dzeibeinuo Yhome, both Asst. Professors. There were 7 participants in total & the following were the topics alloted:
Atiba T Sangtam, 2nd Sem; Topic: Ambedkar was a saviour of the weaker section of the society
Keneisano Kesistsu, 2nd Sem; Topic: Ambedkar’s Philosophy (3rd Position Winner) Helokali Assumi, 2nd Sem; Topic: Ambedkar and his Religious Beliefs Alo Chishi, 4th Sem; Topic: Ambedkar as the Father of the Constitution Sameer Khati, 4th Sem; Topic: Life of Ambedkar (1st Position Winner) Angela Kamsen, 4th Sem; Topic: Relationship between Ambedkar & Gandhi Tsongthsa P Meyo, 6th Sem; Topic: Ambedkar was the saviour of Untouchables (2nd Position Winner)
Nakhro’s critique on Ambedkar made a correlation between North East & the cause of the Dalits. That Ambedkar’s legacy continues to be the roadmap for Social Justice, inspiring Dalits, Indigenous Peoples, Women, Other Minorities & all other Socially deprived communities.


22nd March, 2022: Department of Political Science organised an Educational Trip to the 11th Session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly for the 6th Semester Political Science Honour Students

The annual trip to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly organised by the Department of Political Science Department, was organised for the 6th Semester students opting for the Political Science Honours Programme. They were accompanied by 8 faculty members from the Department of Political Science.
